This early original copper-plate engraving on heavy chain-linked paper is a real beauty. It depicts the French Nobility Family of Rene de Cosse Duke of Brissac. It comes from the French book Les Monumens De La Monarchie Françoise: qui comprennent L'histoire De France. Avec les figures de chaque regne que l'injure des temps a épargnées by Bernard de Montfaucon.

Please ask us for other prints. We have many more originals of Montfaucon and many others. We simply can`t list them all here.

Dom Bernard de Montfaucon (13 January 1655 – 21 December 1741) was a French Benedictine monk of the Congregation of Saint Maur. He was an astute scholar who founded the discipline of palaeography, as well as being an editor of works of the Fathers of the Church. He is regarded as one of the founders of modern archaeology.
