I am pleased to offer you an impressive gouache collage of America (less the state borders) featuring the various characteristics and industries of the land.
Iconic symbols of America abound with the Statue of Liberty, the Washington Capital, baseball, Mount Rushmore, the Founding Fathers etc ... The work features strong colors, bold forms and excellent draftsmanship. The gold banner in the upper right is printed and applied onto the work. Probably done in the 1940's on commission as a mural study for a public building, or an illustration for a particular publication. Nicely framed and under glass, the artwork is ready to hang. Artist signed lower left, 'Lumen Winter'. A wonderful overview of America and it's many fine attributes.
Condition : Image is in excellent condition. Matting has a few minor stains with some foxing, although nothing very offensive. Frame has some minor gilding loss and a few scratches.
Size : 21 1/2" (54.61 cm) Image Height // 26" (66.04 cm) Image Width // 31" (78.74 cm) x 35" (88.90 cm) Overall // 1" (2.54 cm) Depth
Artist Bio : Lumen Winter was born in 1908 (Ellery, Ill.) and died in 1982 (New Rochelle, NY). His mid-western upbringing familiarized him with the regionalist views explored by the painters Thomas H. Benton and John S. Curry, whom he would meet later in life. He was schooled in Michigan, Cleveland, Ohio, NYC and also studied abroad in France and Italy. A diverse artist, Lumen was competent in watercolor/gouache, oil, stone mosaics, printmaking and also executed many murals for public buildings. His work is held by many public and private collections across the country.
