Here we have an interesting bronze portrait bust of someone's pet poodle named 'Baccarat'. To avoid any confusion, this listing has nothing to with the French crystal company Baccarat. The outer surface of the head consists of flattened disks creating an interesting, almost coin-like surface texture. One certainly gets the feeling of the artist's hand at work in creating this effect, and has successfully captured the dog's expression and personality. A pleasing deep weathered green patina covers the bronze. The head is raised on a mottled black marble base engraved with the name, 'Baccarat'. The dog's lower right side is dated 1945, has the artist's initials (HLJ ?), and again the name, 'Baccarat'. I have not tried to determine the artists identity. This sculpture was probably commissioned by a caring owner and is most likely unique. A delightful piece for any poodle aficionado.
