Here we have a nicely rendered oil on canvas portrait of a champion Pomeranian, 'Starbright Princess Sonia', dated 1924. The artist, Gilman Low, creates an intimate setting by showing the dog on a stairwell step between a plant and the stairwell's newell post. The dog looks engaged and very well-groomed. Research indicates Princess Sonia won best of show at the 13th annual specialty show of the American Pomeranian Club held at the Waldorf-Astoria in January 1923. The painting retains it's original hand-carved Arts and Crafts style frame. Inscribed in pencil along the upper horizontal stretcher bar,
'Champion Starbright Princess Sonia, July 11 1924, Property of Miss Viola G. Procter (?),
Painted by Gilman Low'. Enjoy this ready-to-hang portrait of a champion Pomeranian.
