From an estate I have found a beautifully decorated pair of Meissen urns c. 1870 - 1890. The baluster-form urns feature a flaring neck and scrolling handles, heightened with gilded details and decorations. On each urn body is a beautifully rendered depiction of the Madonna and Child, vividly colored with exceptional detail. Typically this form is found with roses or other floral arrangements. Correctly marked with underglaze blue crossed swords and various design and decorator numbers. A nice addition to a collection or period interior.
Condition : As you can see, there is substantial wear to the gilded detail and decoration, probably due to overzealous dusting over the years. Gilding is fired at a very low relative temperature and is easily susceptible to wear. You are buying them 'as-is' with this wear, although I can say that the Madonna and Child images are very clean and vivid. Furthermore, the urns are free of any chips, cracks or repairs.
Size : 11 1/4" (28.58 cm) Tall // 3 1/2" (8.89 cm) Square-Base // 4" (10.16 cm) Upper Diameter
