I am pleased to offer you a large, beautifully rendered oil on canvas portrait of the one of the finest ballerinas of the 20th c, Galina Ulanova. She performed for the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet Company in Moscow and is considered a national hero in her native land. Galina is shown in her lavish dressing room preparing for a performance, probably as Juliet. The colors and modeling are soft and airy, perfect for a graceful ballerina. Signed upper right, 'Grace Gilkison'. I would date the painting c. 1940's and the frame appears to be original. A large and easy-to-live-with painting for your collection or appropriate interior.
Condition : Ready to hang, all original condition. No issues appear under UV light. Because of the large size of this painting, I will personally deliver the picture for a modest fee within a 150 mile radius of Berkshire county Mass. (This includes the greater NYC and Boston metro areas).
Size : Painting : 60" (152.4 cm) Tall // 40" (101.6 cm) Width - Frame adds 2 1/4" (5.59 cm) Around. 2 1/2" (6.35 cm) Deep
Biography : Not much is known about the artist Grace Gilkison. She was a portraitist and also illustrated a number of children's books. She lived and worked in NYC and most of her work was produced between the 1930's and the 1960's.
Note : The title and identification of the ballerina were provided to me upon my purchase. In researching the subject, I can readily see that the ballerina's identity is easily verified by a simple internet search.
