I am pleased to offer you the forth of 4 wonderful original anthropomorphic cat illustrations I have recently purchased. What we see here is a housekeeper being kissed from behind by a very well-dressed and dapper looking male feline. The maid appears wide-eyed and shocked, while a feline, I'm guessing his wife, peers around a door and looks horrified as one would expect. The drawing is pen with ink wash and gouache highlights. The work was probably done as a children's story book illustration c. 1890 - 1910, but reframed and backed in the 1940's/50's. Signed lower left, 'E. Docker', for Edward Alexander Docker, a listed British artist born in 1878 and died in 1932 (his output seems to cease around 1910). A charming, petite work cat lovers will adore !
