Yes, it's true. The iconic Holland Mold Company, with 1947 humble beginnings in a Trenton, New Jersey garage, designed this one-of-a-kind-hand-painted pair of cherub candle holders! Known mostly for fun ceramics created in holiday themes for the home hobbyist to glaze and decorate, there was a very different division of the company staffed by artisans that made high-fired pieces in more elegant designs. Here, for sale, is of one of the Holland Mold Company's most astounding figurine examples. The pair stand as a tall testament, 10 3/4 inches to be exact, to the very best of vintage, American chic. Classically innocent, romantically pure, representing elements of Love in highest form, these earthbound figurines are undeniably a joy to behold. Set with candles they will illuminate your table with grace.
While photographing the pair, represented gently as boy and girl, every frame from any camera angle revealed yet another aspect of their beauty. Notice I never photographed them apart. I couldn’t. There is a dynamic relationship between them. They speak to each other in heartfelt gesture and create a story only possible when together. When shifted in pose, the story between them also seems to shift.
In basic description they are in excellent condition. If ever used, no candles have burned down into the ceramic holder wells. There are no chips or cracks. They have been tastefully hand painted with gold in just the right places. The painter signed and dated the base of each holder (Adele ’73). The color of the creamy white, matte glaze is captured in the first photograph. The blue tint that appears in the other photos I cannot exactly explain. This shading was not intended and is not part of their glaze. I chose not to edit or adjust the blue shadow since it magically illustrates the detailed perfection of the sculptures.
They are special, and I am certain you will find them to be a unique treasure forever to be enjoyed.
