This gorgeous vase was hand-thrown on a potter's wheel and decorated with hand-formed natural elements. The midnight blue, high gloss glaze has an elegant drip of a lighter color. The natural elements include caramel-colored fruits; green, veined, 3 point leaves; a sturdy brown vine; and a tan beetle visitor. This heavy (9 pound) vase has an unglazed interior featuring the "rings" from the potter's fingers as it was coaxed upward on the wheel. The bottom is matte glazed with a medium brown. Although it bears the oval gold foil sticker "Made in China" this piece was definitely made by a highly skilled artisan. I purchased this from the Canadian importer who told me she specifically ordered these vases from the maker whom she had met in China. The name of the artist is unknown to me. Measurements: Mouth 4.5 inches in diameter. Bottom 6 3/8 inches in diameter. Vase height 12 inches. Beetle 1 1/2 inches long. Leaves 2x2 inches. There are tiny air bubbles in the glaze finish, but not enough to be seen or to distract. This heavy vase will mean a heavy shipping cost. The purchase price has been adjusted accordingly.
