How fun! How unusual! A cloisonne watermelon trinket box. The shape and decoration resemble the long watermelons of my youth. On top are 2 metal pieces wired to give them limited movement. On one end is a leaf representing the vine the melon grew on. On the other end is a six-legged bug representing the outdoor environment the melon grows in, Yes, there are bugs in those melon patches. This one has large black eyes on a red head. The body is black with four yellow dots on each wing. The large red dot in the center needs some work to clean it up, I was afraid to dislodge the enamel. I'm sure this box was handled by many fingers. There is a chip in the green near the opening seam - it is shown in the photos. I believe there is a segment of enamel missing from the leaf making it look like it has been through a dry spell. The interior is a deep blue. The flat bottom is bare metal. 3 inches long; 1 3/4 inches wide. Be the only collector you know with a watermelon in your trinket box collection.
