Folk art sewer tile from the Ohio Valley has a strong following. This solid Smokey The Bear is signed by the artist who sculpted it: Roy Blind. Attention to detail makes this unmistakenly Smokey, from his park ranger hat to his shovel for putting out campfires. His hat band and his belt are both branded with the name Smokey. His round eyes are a light colored yellow clay. The trousers have belt loops all around. With the belt threaded through. The ears and facial features are well formed. His fingers and toes are deeply incised and the fur is randomly formed rather than combed. The 11.5 inch tall free-formed sculpture has been glazed from top to toes with a high gloss glaze finish. The unglazed bottom bears the scratched signature of Roy Blind. There is a bit of clay missing from the front brim of the hat which happened before the glaze was applied. This sculpture is 3.5 inches wide. Smokey The Bear from Roy Blind is truly a folk art treasure. This item will be mailed in a large flat rate box due to its heavy nature at 8 lbs. 12 oz.
