Who made this rugged belt buckle? Certainly not a master silversmith. This handsome piece is for everyday wear. It was sold to me as .925 silver, it is stamped only Hand Made. I have no way of testing the silver. The raised decoration (1/4 inch) is abalone surrounded by a black enamel encased in silver. The center diamond shape measures 3 inches corner to corner on the 3.5 x 2.25 inch rectangle. Each corner has an elongated triangular shape featuring the abalone and black enamel encased in silver. All raised edges are scored to reflect the light. The ground has extensive tooling featuring repeating arcs resembling fern leaves. The decoration is not refined, but completely covers the ground area of the piece. This buckle has been proudly worn by someone and has the scratches from daily use to show for it. The buckle has a peg and slide closure on the back.
