Who would have thought the message to avoid smoking started back in the 1800s? This Sprague, Warner & Co. Trade card does just that. The message: "Do you smoke? If not, please do not begin now. If you smoke, your neighbor, who does not, is sorry for you. But you will not care for his sympathy if you smoke such Cigars as Sprague, Warner & Co. are importing." The claim: their cigars are elegant: Virginia De Habana, La Crema De Cuba, Henry Clay, El Porvenir, H. Upman , & La Veguera. The artwork on the card front is a pastoral scene showing a horse & wagon load of hay passing in front of a lake with a sailboat. I believe it was printed by a lithographic process. The card is beautiful, both in artwork and in condition. Only a slight bend to a lower corner exists. The corners are barely soft, there are no marks.
