This large gourd (13 inches x 10 inches) has been carved and painted with an innocent underwater scene. Leafy seaweed branches seem to be waving gracefully in the water while schools of fish swim by. The fish range in size from tiny to medium to large. The mouth of this sculpture is finished with long pine needles stitched together with thread. The decorations are only on the smoothest areas of skin on the gourd. The scarred thick skin has been left undecorated. The paint is thin, allowing the nature of the gourd to be a part of the scene. The artisan is not noted. The style is naive.
