This paper and bamboo folding fan is a serene seaside painting whose medium is a fan. The subject is a coastline depicted during the spring blooming season on the mountainside. It appears to have a mix of the old and the new with a large multi- storied building with old style architecture, but also high power lines. The village is captured in the midst of growth with the construction cranes necessary for progress. A long 2 tier bridge juts into the bay with traffic seen on the top tier. Steam vessels are approaching the on-shore industries. The leaf of the fan is a double thickness of paper glued together with the ribs inside. The backside has a shiny wash with a hint of silver. The supportive monture is good quality bamboo. The fan pivots easily on the metal rivet. Length is 10.75 inches. Span is 15 inches. I put the age at late 1940s to late 1950s based on the style of the trucks and buses on the bridge and steam boats in the bay. It is stamped Made in the People's Republic of China in English and Oriental characters. My description surely cannot convey the artistry.
