This lovely embroidered bag appears to have been made to carry something like dancing slippers. It is not finished pretty enough to have been a purse. The top has a turned down edge to form a tunnel through which a string has been threaded for a drawstring. The body of the bag seems to have been a decorated table runner folded and stitched along one edge to form the midline of the bag, then stitched across the bottom. The embroidery is neat and tidy, and appears to be the work of a talented novice as the satin stitched areas are not over filled. Colors are greens, yellow, shades of red, and black. Measurements are 14 inches long and 10 inches wide. The cloth is a thin linen and has the slight dirt that comes with age.
