This bowl by Harris Strong is handsome in design. Harris Strong was a mid-century cubist artist who produced many pieces in the style of Picasso. This offering is a majestic bull which appears to be proud, muscular, and confident. It is quite a statement piece testifying on its own to the ability and power of this now deceased artist. The bowl is done in a medium brown clay with strong darker brown brush strokes forming the muscle structure of the bull. Sgrafitto has been used on the dark brown areas to show further detail of the horns and skeletal structure. The bowl is 5 3/8 inches in diameter. There has been a small restoration to the rim near the feet, but is well done. I have tried to show it in the photos. I purchased this piece for myself and it moved me to research the artist. To me, this piece belongs in the fine art category as well as the art pottery section. I have shown the artist signature in the photos. It is accompanied by a marking of B50.
