This rare Jersey City Pottery ewer stands a respectable 11.25" high by 5" across by 4.75" in diameter. Jersey City Pottery opened in Jersey City, NJ around 1827. It went through many name changes over the years. This ewer is dated 1884, during a period when the pottery was known as American Pottery Company. According to Barber, the I.V.W. mark began being used around 1880. This ewer has a beautiful and classic form, with an unusual spout, and a very generous palette. It has gorgeous drippy Wisteria blossoms, rather loose and flowing in their presentation. The artwork is exceptional, a very talented artist. The glaze colors, over a gorgeous yellow ground, are especially rich and vibrant on this ewer. It is marked IVW and signed with the artist initials 'W.B.' and dated 1884 on the base. This ewer, which is 133 years old, is in excellent condition, with a very good restoration to a line in the apex of the handle, not cracked, but a line, with a glaze chip, and just normal wear from handling over the years. This vintage beauty makes a stunning presentation!
Swastika Keramos 13" Vase By John Lessell W/Frilly Blossoms Gold/Magenta Glazes
This Swastika Keramos vase stands a tall 13" high by 6.5" in diameter. Swastika Keramos is a line of art pottery made from 1906 to 1908 by the Owen China Company of Minerva, Ohio. John Lessell designed this line for Swastika Keramos, and this vase screams 'John Lessell'. It has a classic full-bodied form, a very large vase. Best of all, this vase is decorated with frilly blossoms in iridized red magenta over a coppery gold tone ground, simply stunning! It is unmarked, but guaranteed to be vintage Swastika Keramos. Terry Kovel documents this form with Peacocoks in the decoration on the Kovel site. This exceptional vessel is in factory mint condition, with some wear to the goldtone on the rim. If you are a fan of Swastika Keramos pottery, or John Lessell's work, this is a wonderful example, it's very handsome, you will not be disappointed!
