This Shearwater Pottery Pirate figural stands 7" high by 5" across by 2.5" wide. He has a very active, very fun design, which was from a line of figures by Walter Inglis Anderson. According to the book on Shearwater Pottery by Dod Stewart, Walter designed the pirate figures with his younger brother Mac, along with several other figural series in 1929, in an annex they built on to their older brother Peter's pottery on the gulf coast in Mississippi. This Pirate is called 'Dancing Pirate', a rather animated, active Pirate. There were many swashbuckling Pirates in Anderson's designs, some large, some small, and each more fun than the next. This guy is dancing, holding a dagger and wearing a blue cape. He is glazed in a rainbow of colors and finished to a glossy sheen. He is well marked with a Shearwater Pottery 'SP' incised cipher, and dated '03 for 2003, guaranteed to be vintage Shearwater Pottery. This Pirate is in mint condition, no apologies.
