This Mettlach stein stands 7.25" high to the top of the inlaid lid, by 4.5" in diameter. This stein has a classic form, with a boisterous forest scene with several men drinking and making merry, a design by Christian Warth. It is a one-half liter stein. This stein is shape #1527, which is entitled "Men Drinking", in the references. It has an etched surface and the scene is beautifully presented in a rainbow of rich, deep colors, dominated in honey amber colors, and finished to a nice combination of matte and glossy glazes. The scene depicts five men drinking and frolicking, against a forest treed landscape. The details on this stein are exquisite! This stein has its original pewter thumblift, and an inlaid lid, which is ornately etched with a crested chalice motif, and finely beaded. This stein, number 1527, has all the hallmarks of Mettlach steins as can be seen in the photos, with a date of '90', for 1890, a nice early stein. It is cleverly signed by Warth, with his ‘CW’ logo on a ‘jug’ in the scene. This stein is in mint condition, and it makes a handsome and cheerful presentation!
