This hard-to-find very handsome Weller Dickens Ware, 2nd Line tobacco jar/humidor stands 6" high by 4.25" across the front by 6" long. Weller Pottery produced a series Dickens Ware tobacco jars, including the 'Turk', 'Irishman', the 'Captain' and the 'Skull', and this guy; the 'Chinaman'. This jar is glazed in Weller's signature Dickens Ware, 2nd Line styling, with a flat bisque-like finish. The design is carved, with really great details in the Chinaman's features. He has a long braid (a 'queue') in traditional 'Manchurian' style, which is wrapped around his collar. This tobacco jar is glazed in Dickens Ware, 2nd line colors, very complementary, and finished to a flat matte. The facial features are especially nice on this jar. It is well marked on the interior of the lid, and is guaranteed to be vintage Weller, circa 1900-1905. It is in excellent condition, with a superb restoration to a chip on the inner rim of the base. It has the usual mold lines found on Dickens Ware pieces, as can be seen in the photos and it has a recessed opening in the lid for a sponge. This rather elusive Weller Dickens Ware 'Chinaman' tobacco jar, makes an impressive and very handsome presentation!
