This Mettlach stein stands 7" high to the top of the inlaid lid, by 4" in diameter. This stein has a classic form, with a ‘Man on horseback’ motif. It is a one-half liter stein. This stein is shape #2889, which is entitled "Man on Horse", in the references. It has an etched surface and the landscape scene is beautifully presented in a rainbow of rich, deep colors and finished to a nice combination of matte and glossy glazes. The scene depicts a man on horseback against a vivid landscape, with a grove of trees and fields, and he is outside a tavern, being served a beer by a barmaid. The details on this stein are exquisite! This stein has its original pewter thumblift, and an inlaid lid, which is ornately etched with a landscape motif, with a rooftops view. This stein, number 2889, has all the hallmarks of Mettlach steins as can be seen in the photos, with a date of '03', for 1903. This stein is in mint condition, and it makes a very cheerful presentation!
