Black full-cloth boards, Harry Clarke illustrated plate set at front, gilt embossed spine titles, moderate shelf wear, with tears at the top and bottom spine edges as shown. Brentano's to heel of spine.
Frontispiece tipped-in colour plate named "He shrieked once - once only".
Thick deckled pages very good. Binding intact, but illustration pages 130 and 192 have come loose; they are present, but loose; front hinge reinforced.
Profusely illustrated with the ethereal, spine-tingling imagery of Harry Clarke. Includes eight beautifully mounted colour plates set on grey matte pages, and twenty-four smooth-coated, chiaroscuro-like, monochromatic plates. Each rich in detail and depth. Additional partial-page imagery, vignettes, and decoration by Harry Clarke throughout. Rare, near very good Brentano's edition.
