This early 20th century academic award was given to a high academic achiever in the Bangor High School, Bangor, ME. Charles E. French bequeathed money to the school to honor students each year since the approximate time of his death in 1907. This medal hangs from a red and white grosgrain ribbon. The sterling silver rectangle measures 1 1/2 inches by 7/8 inch. The back of the medal is stamped, "Robbins Co., Sterling." The Robbins Company was located in Attleboro, MA. The full length of the award, with ribbon and medal, is 3 1/4 inches. This medal is equipped with a safety-pin type clasp. It is in very good condition, with no stains, tears, dents, warps, or other problems. There are no engravings. The design is Art Nouveau, which fits with the timeframe in which it was first awarded to a student. The condition of this particular pin is believed to be 1930s to 1950s. This item weighs 18.7 grams.
