This early metal comb is believed to be copper, with much age, oxidation, and verdigris. It measures 4 3/4 inches long, and 1 1/2 inches wide at the scrolled, twisted wire top. The prongs have been affixed to the fancy part of the comb with narrow tubes. It is not all one piece. The prongs are sturdy--not in the least loose. There are no markings that could be found. The metal does not attract to a magnet. This item is difficult to date, but the simplicity with which it was designed and made, lead us to believe it dates from the early Victorian era; perhaps earlier.
