This matching pair of antique solid brass candlesticks measure 11 1/4 inches tall and 4 inches wide at the octagonal base. Each weighs 2 pounds, 8.4 ounces. They are unsigned, but are in excellent condition, with no dents, warps, or bends. There are no engravings. Surprisingly, these come apart at the base of the column, just above the base. The top and bottom are affixed to each other by what appears to be an early machine-made screw. There are bits of wax on the interior screws, as well as drips down the side, through the interiors, and on the bobeches. We believe this pair is either English or American, and circa 1830s or 1840s. They were once fitted with a push-up shaft, which permitted the candle to be removed when it had burnt down to a nub. These push-up mechanisms are no longer with the candlesticks.
