This hand-painted portrait is bezel-set within an elaborate silver frame, and covered with glass. It can be worn as a pendant as well as a brooch. The measurements are 2 inches long, including the bail, and 1 3/8 inches wide. Around the silver bezel is a series of reticulated and bright-cut flowers and vines. The painting is exceptional, but is unsigned. The pendant/brooch is stamped on the reverse with "800." It is highly likely that this very dainty item of jewelry originated in Italy, and is circa 1900. The condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, stains, breaks or losses. It shows minimal wear for its age.
