This very exotic 14K yellow gold ring has a most unusual mounting. There are four pear-shaped, filigreed wings that all join to surround a cobalt blue, prong-set natural sapphire. The gem stone is 2.5 to 3 mm in width. The stone is round and faceted with a modern, 20th century cut. The measurements of this fancy mounting are 20 mm long, 12 mm wide, and 6 mm above the band. There are slight differences in each portion of filigree that indicate the majority of the ring was hand-crafted. The band is also unusual in that the band, which measures 3 mm at the widest point at the base, tapers gracefully as it comes around to join the mounting on each side. This ring is stamped on the inside of the band, "14K." It also bears a second stamp, "14," with the symbol of a diamond with a dot in the center. The maker is unknown. This ring is full of intrigue, with a design that harkens to the regions around the Mediterranean Sea. We estimate that it was made in the mid-20th century. The weight is 3.6 grams.
