This well-carved, natural shell cameo is a variation of the favorite early Victorian "Rebecca at the Well" theme. It is bezel-set within an elaborate gold-filled mounting. The overall measurement of this beautiful, antique brooch is 2 1/4 inch by 1 3/4 inch. The condition is excellent for its age, and we believe it was made circa 1850. The cameo has no chips or cracks. The setting has a hinged pin-back and the original "C" clasp has been replaced in the early 20th century with a safety clasp. The setting has no dents, warps, breaks, or other issues. There are no signatures. The majority of the gold surface is intact, with only a tiny few minute areas (which can only be seen with magnification) showing loss.
