This pottery covered dish appears to be in the form of Tengu, a long-nosed, red-faced goblin of Japanese folklore. The covered dish is 2 inches tall and two inches wide. It is well-formed, and very carefully hand-painted. The interior base is also hand-painted. The dish is unsigned. The condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, or losses of paint. Upon close examination the glazed exterior and the painted interior are very finely crazed. We believe this item dates from the early the mid-20th century. It was suggested that the nose could function as a place for one's ring.
