This wall pocket is 8 3/8 inches long, 4 1/4 inches wide, and 2 inches deep. It is made of terra cotta pottery, some of which shows beyond the soft milk-painted palette. The only chips are around the hole with which it is hung on the wall. There are no other chips, and no cracks. There are areas where the paint was applied thinly, or where the pottery missed the paint. The interior is painted black. The reverse shows a round, impressed mark, which is too difficult to make out, although some of the letters indicate that it may have "Japan" in the signature. There is also an early paper label belonging to the shop that marketed the Item, "Ridge Farm Gift Shop, Eustes Ridge, ME." This shop appears to no longer be in business. We estimate that this item was manufactured and marketed circa 1940s//1950s.
