This beautifully hand-painted covered dish measures 4 3/4 inches long, 4 3/4 inches wide, and 3 1/2 inches tall. it is painted in bright enamels, and is roughly formed in the shape of a heart. The clay is cream-colored, thick, and heavy. There is not a recognizable signature, other than a cryptic "A12" on the inside of the lid, and "Lb" or "LL" on the base and also inside the lid. It is very much like Longwy, both in palette, and design, but we could not confirm that it is indeed Longwy. We believe it is Continental, and possibly from another French pottery. We also believe that it dates from the late 19th century, or the early 20th century. The condition is excellent. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, or loses of color.
