This is a pair of matching, fine porcelain, hand-painted cups and saucers. They are Japanese Imari, with a vivid design of flowers, palm fronds, and a phoenix. The interiors of the cups also have flowers and fronds. The colors are deep enamels in red, blue, green, gold, and a bit of lavender on the birds. Each saucer is 5 1/2 inches wide, and each cup is 1 7/8 inches high. Each piece is signed on the bottom in red with Japanese symbols. Based on the shape of the cups and saucers, we believe these are from the early 20th century. We could not identify the signatures. With the exception of a minute chip on the rim of one saucer, they are in excellent condition. There are no other chips, no cracks, no losses of color, or other problems.
