This is a vintage salt dish with a matching cover. The base is in the form of an oval basket, and the top is the basket lid with the head of a farm animal peeking out. It is debatable whether this is the head of a pig or a sheep. The painting has been done by hand and the condition is excellent. There are no chips, cracks, crazing, or glaze flakes. The base is marked "Japan" which indicates that this item was made in the 1930s or 1940s. With the lid in place, it measures 2 1/4 inches long, 1 3/4 inches wide, and 2 inches high.
