This beautiful Flow Blue cup plate measures 4 5/8 inches wide, and 1 inch tall. It bears three kiln marks in the center bowl and is decorated in a rich, flowing cobalt blue. The design is a transfer with an urn of flowers in the foreground, and neoclassical architecture in the background, with a border of flowers and ferns around the edge. The name of the pattern is unknown. The reverse shows two very old hairlines stemming from the rim toward the center; each approximately 3/4 inch long. There are no other cracks, and there are no chips. Upon very close inspection, very fine, light crazing can be seen. The reverse is impressed with a small "x" within a circle. Spode was known to have marked very early items with this mark. Such a mark would date this little cup plate to circa 1784 to the very early 19th century.
