This bronze box has a hinged lid and two equal, wood-lined compartments inside. It was perhaps for cigarettes or similar products, as there is a lingering aroma of tobacco (nice). Each compartment measures 2 15/16 inches by 2 3/4 inches. The overall measurements of the box are 6 13/16 inches long, 3 5/16 inches wide, and 1 3/4 inches tall. The Pixie of the Moor, among mushrooms and goats, with rising sun and mountains in the distance, is in high relief. The hinges work just fine and the overall condition is quite good considering that this item was manufactured circa 1900. There is one very slight bend in the front, bottom left corner, shown in the photo and believed to be original to its manufacture. There are no maker's marks, although we believe it is English. The only flaw is that it has been cleaned in recent years, as the original patina would be darker and more even.
