This is a vintage piece from my mother. She remembers that she purchased it in Arizona in the 1970's, on a reservation, while camping across the country one summer. She does not recall what tribe or other details. Having said that, I can tell you it is hallmarked sterling on the back and has 2, possibly 3 symbols before that. I wanted to clean the piece so I could read the symbols but was sternly cautioned against doing that. It weighs 9 grams, is 1 1/4 inches long by 1 inch wide (not counting the bail which is an additional 1/4 inch long). The turquoise itself is 7 mm thick, in a scalloped bezel and is a very deep blue with some chocolate brown matrix which is not too pronounced. A nicely balanced gem. The setting around the bezel has a dainty rope design, scrolling and tiny rounds. This was definitely intended to set off the stone and not detract from it. A very skillfully set piece. This was well cared for and the setting is in great shape. I only found one small scrape on the back of this piece and that was under magnification, I can't see it without the loupe. I am not proficient in early Native American pieces by any means and I own a fair share of them from traveling in the 60 & 70's, but I do know gems and settings and this is a beautiful Turquoise.
