This vintage mid-century German stein with a hunter motif has a Swiss music box that plays Auf Wiedersehn. You have to pick it up for it to play. It is a large traditional German beer stein with a pewter lid that was bought in Germany in the early 60's.
The beer tankard has been created from glazed ceramic and decorated with two hunting dogs with pheasants in their mouths. There is a large outside scene of two hunters drinking beer and eating a meal being served by a beer maid. Two dogs are begging for food at their feet. It features a flip top metal lid decorated with arabesque patterns. There are two German inscriptions on the stein: "Im Wald und auf der Haide", and "Da such ich meine Freude". The English translation is "In the forest and on the heath" "I search for my joy".
The stein is 10.5" tall and is 5" in diameter. Please look at the pictures to see that the stein is in very good vintage condition. It will be a great addition to any collection
