These six vintage wooden yarn or quill bobbins are memories of America's textile manufacturers that ruled the world of cloth in the 19th and 20th centuries. Three do not have thread or yarn but the other three still have thread around them. One bobbin has green thread, another has blue thread, and the last has maroon thread. All six of them are 8 3/4" long and are in good vintage condition. All bobbins have the wire wrapping on the base. The manufacturer is unknown and these would make a nice craft/sewing/knitting display.
Originally created to manage the piles of thread and yarn that would be mechanically woven into cloth, bobbins helped to revolutionize textile manufacturing. Most mills had wooden bobbins made specifically for their machinery, which accounts for the many varied shapes and sizes of spools.
