This large, costume goldtone and rhinestone brooch is a real stunner from the 1950s. The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, effect on an Austrian crystal was developed in 1956 by Swarovski and Christian Dior. The “AB” is a metal coating on the surface that creates a dazzling rainbow of colors that flicker and change with the angle of light. In this brooch, the base color of the stones is a grayish hue that lends a smoky background to the bright color reflections. This piece is a statement size with large stones, perfect for a jacket lapel, at the V of a top, pinned in an updo, or hung from a ribbon at the neck.

This vintage AB rhinestone brooch is in excellent condition. The stones are all original and not chipped. The metal shows no wear or damage. The pin mechanism works well and holds securely.

This 1950s rhinestone pin measures approximately 2.83 inches wide by 1.25 inches tall. The largest rhinestones is apx. 8.50 mm and the smallest is apx. 3.50 mm (measured in mounting).
