This is a Fascinating and Rare 1960 Trippensee Planetarium or Orrery with 17” Boom and Cast Iron Base. Large yellow hard plastic sun with attached wood black and white spheres representing the planets. The boom is inset with minute compass, 3" Rand McNally globe with attached moon activated by nickle-plated clockwork gears and chain. Heavy cast Iron Base with seasons and equinox. Manufacturing info on revolving arm states "Trippenssee Planetarium Co. Saginaw, Mich. The bottom of base is embossed with the manufacturing date "1960". Everything Functions as it should. The dimensions are approx.. 22” overall width (as positioned in pics), 5 ¾” Cast Iron Base, approx. 6” deep (Sun Globe) by approx. 14” high.
All gears work perfectly as well as all chains. No painting or touch up has been done. Minute compass appears incomplete. Could use a light soap and water cleaning and some oil on the gears but otherwise is outstanding for a toy of this era that usually take a lot of abuse and are rarely found in this condition!
