This item is a superb GERMAN BRONZE ANEROID DESK BAROMETER with an EXCEPTIONAL ORNATE FRAME with ORIGINAL GILDING. It features four separate elements in the frame - a gilded bird and gilded flowers at the top, an owl with widespread wings at the bottom and two ornate mythical figures at the sides - a man and a woman. The barometer is marked in German (see last photo for a good close-up) and is signed J. G. Schneider, Hirschberg. He was most likely the retailer. It is also marked D & R on the back of the instrument. The barometer is in good working order with an open escapemant. The frame is in magnificent condition with beautifully detailed castings. The barometer measures 10 1/4"H and 10"W. it is quite heavy. It stands upright resting on an ornately cast stand. It has a lovely color and patina. it is a truly exceptional piece. It dates c1890 or earlier.
