THis item is a BRASS VICTORIAN SKIRT LIFTER with a SHELL MOTIF. These were is use in Victorian times to assist ladies in holding up the hems of their skirts for riding horses and bicycles , during stair climbing and at other times. They are basically a tong like device that a lady would clamp on the hem of a skirt and hook the other end onto a waistband or chatelaine. This one is in excellent condition. It measures slightly over 6" long.
