This item is a FRENCH BRASS CHAMPAGE TAP. This is a long tap measuring 12 1/2” long. These taps were used both for Champagne bottles and soda water bottles as well. The tap would be threaded into the cork until the holes at the bottom passed through. The tap would then be pushed all the way in. The gaseous effervescence would propel the champagne or soda water out of the bottle when the small valve at the top of the tap was opened and closed. This particular tap features a serpent designed spout. Besides being useful, it is a great addition to a corkscrew/wine impliment collection.
