Exceptional antique French sterling silver chocolate pot, complete with original wooden 'moussoir' muddler mixing stick. With flamboyant Louis XV style styling, this magnificent chocolate pot features a classic 18th century style 'duck bill' spout, and twist fluted body chased with a rocaille border and finely embellished with a large asymmetrical cartouche, framed by scroll, rocaille, floral motifs, and a decorative interlaced monogram. The lid is surmounted by a hinged floral finial, which opens to reveal the aperture for the muddler mixing stick (used to stir and whisk the contents without losing heat). A rather unique feature of this pot is the twist fluted carved wooden handle on both the removable side handle of the pot and handle of the muddler stick, that finely echo the decor of the pot. Beautifully hand crafted from the highest quality silver, it is stamped with the French Minerve 1st standard silver mark (.950) on body, lid and finial, and carries the maker's mark and signature for Amelie CARDEILHAC, c. 1900. The prestigious Cardeilhac dynasty of silversmith dates from 1804, and the House of Cardeilhac was acquired by Christofle in 1951.
This exceptional antique French sterling silver coffee pot was professionally cleaned by our Parisian silversmith, condition is excellent with only light signs of use to note, and the wooden handles are well preserved. For the finest of tables....
