Exquisite and rare antique French Louis-Philippe era Vermeil 54pc dessert flatware set, with handles and stems finely decorated both sides with sinuous scrolling foliate, floral and shell motifs. Complete with its original 2-tiered leather storage chest, the set comprises 3-piece place settings for EIGHTEEN : 18 Dessert Forks, 18 Dessert Spoons, and 18 Dessert Knives (with vermeil silver blades). Each piece, including knife blades & handles, is stamped with the French Minerve .800 standard silver (almost sterling) mark, and maker's mark for Parisian master silversmith Charles BUZOT, active in 1835. Five knife blades have a "PG" maker's mark. When one considers this exquisite set is well over 170 years old, it is remarkable that it is not only complete, but in such excellent condition with just fine surface scratches from light use to note, and the the rich vermeil (18K gold on silver) is beautifully preserved. The fitted chest features a brass handle and cartouche on the lid, and though missing part of one clasp is overall in good antique condition.
