This is a genuine original magazine advertisement from the March, 1955 issue of the Ladies' Home Journal.
This full-colour, dated beverage ad features a picture of an attractive blonde in a sleek, sexy, off-the-shoulder dress. A black cat is at her feet - subliminally suggesting the feline-like, figure-hugging form of her fashionable ensemble.
The ad copy for this artist-signed (Lynn Buckham) illustration highlights that Pepsi "refreshes without filling" as "One look at this modern hostess's silhouette and you can just about guess the kind of thing she keeps in that refrigerator."
This advertisement is one of a long-running series that Pepsi-Cola ran in the 1950s that came to be known as The Sociables. The campaign featured illustrations by top-notch commercial artists that portrayed a more stylish, urban and suburban sensibility as opposed to its main competitor's ads. Pepsi used scenes with sophisticated, society types of attractive, affluent adults in contrast to Coca-Cola's depiction of small-town, family-orientated Americana. Many of the 'Pepsi Generation' ads of this era resemble Mid-Century fashion illustrations (in an effort to appeal to women), such was the quality of the artists and the subjects and motifs displayed.
This LARGE 1950s advert measures 10 1/2" x 13 5/8" (approx.). The image of this piece of advertising memorabilia / ephemera has been accommodated completely by a large-format scanner. This Fifties print ad is in excellent condition and is eminently suitable for framing.
