This is a beautiful Lapis Lazuli and Seed Pearl antique ring designed in 14 karat yellow gold. (tested) The inside of the ring appears to have a partial date which reads MAR on one side of the under gallery and 66 on the other side. It looks like other identification marks may have been worn away at some point, (not sure).
As the Grand Victorian Period falls within this timeframe 1860-1885 I am estimating that the head of the ring is most likely from this period. Gemstones such as lapis were being used during this era, while framing gemstones with seed pearls was also a popular design element.
Based on the way the featured gemstone and seed pearls are mounted, I suspect that at one time they may have been mounted on another shank. The lapis and seed pearls are so beautiful that I feel certain their preservation was carefully planned and designed. The under gallery looks as though it has been reinforced. I am guessing that this was the method used to marry the two pieces together. The gemstone and pearls are very secure so there should be no worries. The 20, small seed pearl are bead-set and all look to be original. Truly a beautiful ring.
The ring measures 5-1/4. Ever so gently tested to be 14 karat gold as there are no hallmarks. Weight, 5.0 grams.
A beautiful ring on the hand. Very striking as the blue lapis lazuli contrasts the seed pearls nicely, making quite a statement. The lapis has a generous amount of pyrite, which enhances the 14 karat gold frame immediately around the lapis gemstone.
The ring is in very nice condition. One shoulder of the ring has slight surface scratching, otherwise in very nice antique condition.
Truly a beauty.
