Ancient Gaul was divided into regions that were called Gallia by the Romans. And the fighting men of Gallic France referred to their Goddess also as Gallia - a warrior woman in a winged helmet also known, to-day, as Marianne, the symbol of Liberty in France.
Since Gallia became the symbol of all fighting men in France, it will surprise no one to find it in this beautiful medal attached to a man's pocket watch chain. The CD initials engraved on the front of the medal bespeaks of an exquisite craftsmanship. The reverse side of the medal is nicely decorated with laurel leaves and a sword.
This stunning guard chain is constructed with lovely filigree oblong links in an intricate design. It ends with the two clasps: a spring clasp and a swivel hook which are in perfect working order. There are no bends nor breaks. The chain and its medal are in excellent estate condition and are fully hallmarked.
