This is a stunning 18K gold coin of the Napoléon III empire. It is a sovereign coin which has been made into a ring. The mounting is gorgeous and the coin condition is excellent showing the profile of Napoléon III, bare headed, well delineated and quite visible.
As is often the case, this beautiful ring coin combines two different gold purity (i.e., the coin in one purity of metal (.900) and the setting in another (.750), this spectacular ring is truly wearable gold. It is stamped for authenticity.
The coin is set high above the ring shank and the setting is ornately designed with several elongated circles. the coin is solidly held in place with 4 wide prongs.
the coin reverse side indicates the date of 1858. This is a period during which Napoléon III (the nephew of Napoléon I) acceded to the throne of France and was proclaimed emperor of the French, and his wife, Eugénie, empress. The Emperor's effigy appears on the face of the coin.
In addition to the date -- 1858 -- and still on the underside of the coin, one can read 20 francs encircled by a halo of laurel leaves.
The head of the ring measures 2.4 cm and weighs 11.5g. It is a heavy gold ring.
